Shopping Areas & Malls

Historic Old Town

Shopping for jewelry in old town by acvbOld Town is the historic heart of Albuquerque, with more than 300 shops, galleries and restaurants clustered around the charming 300-year-old plaza. Beautiful 18th century architecture, narrow brick paths and picturesque patios connect specialty shops selling  authentic Southwestern pottery, rugs, jewelry, fetishes, carvings and art of all kinds. Traditional New Mexican pottery, art and rugs can be found here at prices that put other Southwestern cities to shame. You'll feel a special connection when you buy directly from the Native American artists who line the portal east of the plaza.

Nob Hill

In Nob Hill, mid-century architecture and neon signs distinguish a historic shopping district where  you can find many unique and handcrafted gifts among the small, mostly locally owned stores. Whether you're browsing through trendy clothes, one-of-a-kind jewelry or chic home décor, you'll enjoy the experience of strolling along an 80-year-old stretch of Route 66, now called Central Avenue. Hundreds of locally owned businesses line Central Avenue and the streets to the north and south. If you need a break from shopping, you'll find plenty of places to relax with a latte or a nice glass of wine. Patio dining is abundant, and there are many interesting ethnic restaurants as well as diners and coffee shops.

Uptown

The Uptown area near Louisiana and I-40 is the city's biggest shopping and dining destination. It is home to the recently opened ABQ Uptown, an outdoor mall filled with upscale specialty shops and restaurants. Here you'll find au courant fashion and home furnishings in stores such as BCBG, J. Jill, Coldwater Creek, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and more. The Apple Store is always buzzing with the latest technology products, and Borders offers all the books and magazines a bibliophile could ever want. Coronado Center, just west of ABQ Uptown, is anchored by Macy's, JCPenney, Mervyn's and Sears. It features more than 150 specialty stores including Gap, Banana Republic, Caché, Ann Taylor and The Body Shop. The area has an awesome variety of dining options, the unforgettable menu of Elephant Bar. Additional dining choices include the satisfying fare at Bravo Cucina Italiana and top-notch sushi at Japanese Kitchen.

Westside

The shopping options are vast on Albuquerque's quickly expanding Westside. The Cottonwood Mall offers several major anchor stores including Dillard's, Macy's, Sears, JCPenney, and Mervyn's. Cottonwood also has a United Artists theater and more than 135 specialty stores such as Build-A-Bear Workshop, Aveda Environmental Lifestyle Store, Cache, The Disney Store, Old Navy and Williams-Sonoma. Continuing north from Cottonwood Mall, you'll find yourself in the neighboring city of Rio Rancho which also offers many shopping centers chock full of stores.
